Melbourne workshop, Urban systems transformation
On 8 February 2019 Future Earth Australia held the fifth in a series of national workshops for its project ‘Urban systems transformation: sustainable cities’. The Melbourne workshop was hosted by the Centre of Urban Research at RMIT University and included stakeholders from government, city councils, local businesses, NGOs and research groups.
The event began with presentations by Professor Jago Dodson, Director of the Centre for Urban Research at RMIT University, Professor Billie Giles-Corti, Director of the Urban Futures ECP and CRE Healthy Liveable Communities at RMIT University, and Professor Chris Ryan, Director of Victorian Eco-Innovation Lab at the University of Melbourne. Next, participants were asked about their visions for a sustainable future in Melbourne. Using an online poll, we generated a word cloud of answers to a number of questions. For instance, when asked ‘What is your vision for a sustainable future in Melbourne?’, the most popular answers were liveable with six entries, health, equitable, and green with five entries, and walkable, localised, and connected with four entries.
