Community science in focus in our partnership with AGU's Thriving Earth Exchange

We are excited to announce that in 2020, we will be convening and facilitating a series of community science projects which serve the sustainability priorities of several communities.

Future Earth Australia has partnered with the American Geophysical Union’s (AGU) Thriving Earth Exchange to bring their highly successful model for co-designing and co-producing community science projects to our region.

Communities know their sustainability priorities best. Future Earth Australia will facilitate communities and scientists to co-produce actionable science which addresses a local or regional concern.  We will tap our extensive network of research partners and pair it with our Secretariat’s project management capability to deliver actionable science for communities’ sustainability priorities.

The call for communities to partner for a community science project will open on 8 May 2020. Find eligibility criteria and an expression of interest form at this link.

In the wake of an intense bushfire season, the immense pressure of COVID-19, and a range of pre-existing sustainability challenges like water scarcity and biodiversity loss, there is more than enough to work on in with communities in 2020.

Our partnership with Thriving Earth Exchange emerges from a mutual desire to promote sustainability science for the public good and to contribute to the well-being of communities. We are invested in partnerships that facilitate the development of knowledge and tools and look forward to sharing the lessons learned so they can be adopted by communities or decision makers facing similar issues.
